from Monterey Mills in Janesville, WI

Wisconsin based company Monterey Mills demonstrates solutions for cleaning up the BP oil spill in the Gulf

  • Monterey Mills, the largest manufacturer of knit pile fabric in the United States, has been touting since June the oil absorbency of one of its woolen fabrics. The company has staged several demonstrations showing how its fabric can pick up and retain four or five times its weight in oil and is 100% biodegradable.
  • BP has whittled down more than 120,000 applications to 150 potential solutions for cleaning up the oil spill in the gulf and Monterey Mills fabric has made the cut. Even the EPA has approved Monterey Mills Fabric, for its effectiveness.
  • There has been a flurry of activity since Monterey Mills first posted a video demonstration on YouTube showing how the fabric could absorb oil from water. Keep visiting this site for the latest updates and feel free to contact us with your comments or suggestions.
  • It has recently been asked whether this fabric can be used to clean up the sheen floating on top of the water in the gulf. So, this latest video provides a demonstration of the fabric being used to clean up chemicals on the water’s surface.
